Many of the nation's top economic experts say that America is "near full employment." Put another way. If there are 100 million jobs available and 200 million people competing for them. That's full employment. ;-)

((94 million people out of work force) x (~5.75 ft/person in height))/(5280 ft/mile) = ~102,000 mile of people stacked head to toe. Earth is ~25,0000 in circumference. (102,000 mile of people)/(25,000 miles around the earth) = ~ 4. So unemployed people in our country alone circumnavigates the globe 4x. WOW.

Last time available labor truly became short in the late 90’s, fast-food was paying $12 hr for the newly hired in Louisiana. Oilpatch work had begun seeking labor from the southernmost states coast-to-coast after hiring all the qualified workers locally.

The general public has "extremely little factual knowledge" about the job market and labor force, Rutgers found. It's hard for people to absorb factual knowledge when the government data they are supposed to believe is contradicted by everything they see in their own family, friends, and neighbors.

I was laid off in 2008. Since I had done quite a lot of technical writing, much of which HAD to be well and clearly written, or I would not have had that part of my job(s) for long, one area in which I looked for employment was technical writing. Indeed, I found plenty of "openings", even in that economic environment. But they all required certain "skills" which had only recently begun to be taught in tech writing courses. (I'd never even heard of most of these requirements.) Since the initial application is online, the employer never gets a good initial "snapshot" of the applicant. They just know I do not have a background in "gobblety-gook 2005." When you see job ads with a very specific set of skill requirements, usually the real situation is that they just want to show they "can't find" an American to do the job, so that they can justify an H1B.
How does the H1B get experience in "gobblety-gook 2015" so quickly? Simple. They lie. Besides, the company doesn't care about "gobblety-gook 2015", they just want a cheap H1B.
