I quite agree with you that Phyllis Schlafly is a credible person who has staunchly held to her principles, which explains why my first sentence of my reply extolled "her long and illustrious career." The pity is that she is wrong now.

There are not 28 states calling for an Article V convention on the same issue. One of the few things that most critics of Article V do not understand is that the Washington establishment, Republican and Democrat, oppose the Article V movement precisely because it aims to cut their power and restore it to the people and to the states. Therefore, when the matter comes to the House of Representatives to fulfill its duty to "call" a constitutional convention it will use every ruse conceivable to avoid doing so, as it has done historically. This demonstrates the difficulty of passing any amendment because, even before we get to arguing amendments, we have difficulty even getting into an amendment process. The difficulty of passing a constitutional amendment is evidence that those who fear such amendments do not understand the process.

The reality is that 13 state legislatures out of 99 can stop any constitutional amendment. I repeat, 13 state legislatures from different states out of 99 state legislatures can stop a proposed constitutional amendment. There is no reason to believe under these circumstances that anything will "go south."

Whether Donald Trump is president or not has virtually nothing to do with the Article V process. The president plays absolutely no role, has no control, has no input.

It all depends on the “RULES” my friend. And the rules will only be written after the call and seating of delegates. The first rule that will be up for grabs will be the one you think you can depend on. I think based on evidence from rules practice by at least one pro Article V group we might get down to something on the order of 29 States to ratify vs the present 38. How about 26 or a simple majority to cause some concern? If you think leftists, communists, democrats, socialists and every other ist and ism are not going to flock to the sound of Article V, you better think again.

If we the people fail to find sufficient folks to turn the Congress around we are doomed. I believe before we are doomed events will create a means whereby the right decisions will lead the country back on its Constitutional track. Due to the fifty fifty political/ideological mix in the country Article V cannot do it with any degree of safety. We depend on what is on the books NOW. Allowing a convention to mess with what is our safety net, does not appear to be sound advice and your comment regarding differing resolutions by the 28 States is just one more reason I believe we are not going to get to the number 34.

In this case the Presidential “Election” has everything to do with Article V. A particular winner IMHO will negate what is perceived to be the need.
