... followed by a shouting match by a Chinese official who unleashed on the US Press corps and national security advisor Susan Rice, blocking them from crossing a blue rope holding back press and saying "This is our country. This is our airport", Chinese officials had no such problems greeting Russian president Vladimir Putin with full honors, whose arrival - on the red carpet - took place without a glitch.

The way I see this working is a state department functionary would arrive early and work out every detail of the president’s visit. He would have a schedule. Plane arrives at 11:00, rolls to reception area. Stairs are rolled up. Greeting ceremony by (fill-in-name.)
If there was a problem, this state department functionary should have alerted his contact on the plane. The plane would then circle while the issues were worked out. If the issues were not properly worked out a decision should be made. For a snub this obvious, I’d say the plane should not land. Instead, it should re-file a flight plan for Taiwan. Then see how fast the stairs get rolled out.
I think that at least half the problem is in the state department or the White House staff.
At the very least, a good state department guy would bribe the socks off some airport official and a set of stairs would roll out regardless.
To make matters worse the elaborate take out state dinner was followed by a generous handout of fortune cookies containing bad one liners and bogus lottery numbers.
Considering how Obama used to deeply bow before every 3rd world potentate that he met he shouldn’t have any problem with shabby treatment by his Chinese overlords.
They are sending him, and by extension the USA and our allies, a message about who is now the hegemon in that part of the globe.

Obama is scum, truly an abomination, and Hitlery right next to him. Instead of a ‘red-carpet’, they should roll a large sewer-pipe over to the plane for him/her to crawl through.
Exactly correct. Either the president gets the correct reception or they either don’t land or they demand re-feuling and leave. This whole situation shows such weakness. The problem is that Obama wants this silly climate change accord so badly he’ll do whatever it takes to get it, even if that means slinking out of the belly of Air Force One. The Chinese had all the power and they knew it. In any negotiation the party that cares the least about the outcome has the power, Obama is desperate for his climate change legacy and the Chinese used the opportunity to make the POTUS look irrelevant to the world.

I love seeing anyone snub Obama. He deserves it. But this does not reflect well on either country actually. I read another article about the security scuffle, and I have to admit the chinese guy is right, it’s their country, their airport, cooperate with their way of doing things, or negotiate an agreeable procedure. That is what should have been done in advance.
What do you want to bet they roll out the red carpet when Trump...ummmm President Trump...shows up? Or even before the election, I suspect he might try it. He can make arrangements in no time, as we have seen.
It’s no secret most of the world’s leaders have zero respect for Obama, I’m just surprised one of them actually showed it in such a public manner. I’d love to see a few more do the same...

Apologizes for such a vulgar comment about our president, but the ‘man’ is rotten to the core, and so is Hitlery. An though Bush deserves credit for laiding the groundwork for the desolation of the M.E., Obama/Hitlery/Kerry have thrown fuel on the fire and created something even worse: ISIS, and are directly responsible for the rape, torture, and murder of hundreds of thousands of innocents, including Christians; and responsible for the invasion of the West by these same cutthroats.

I'm sure a reception for Trump, especially in China, would be a grand event.
It is a TRAVESTY that most of us as PLEASED to see our scummy President be treated like sh**. This is OUR representative. We don’t let our flag touch the ground out of respect, even though it’s just a piece of cloth. We wouldn’t like our sports team to get booed. How sad is it that we are disgusted by our representative.

And if Hillary were President and they allowed NO stairs and Madame President fell out the plane door, we still would be pleased.
Runner-ups are Putin for snubbing Kerry and Erdogan for snubbing Biden ... but the Chinese doing this to the Golfer himself are the clear winners.
When as a teen you suck adult pEn1$es in cars for pocket change, you really don’t mind snubs if it gets you what you want. TRUMP WOULD INSIST ON RESPECT, not for himself, but for the country full of Americans.
