FYI Applicant #2 is planning on a vacation to see her parents, the end of Sept. From where she is now, she can't fly directly to Butuan, so was going to fly in to Davao, then bus up to Butuan

That's strange. Philippine Air and Cebu Pacific both fly from Manila to Butuan City.

Thanks for letting us know what is going on there. It sounds like they are going to take care of the Muzzie problem before it gets out of hand. Maybe they’ll follow the General Pershing solution of dealing with Muzzies.

Duarte sounds like a good man.

Glad you are well and stay safe.

Praise God and keep your head on swivel.

We will, while we are relaxing at Bago Beach, sipping cool drinks and singing on the Karaoke machine. Yes, they have karaoke machines at the beach. 🎤🎼🎧

“The Filipinos are brave beyond belief”

They may be brave but they seem remarkably ineffectual when it comes to dealing with insurgents. If it’s not Communists it’s Islamists or drugs cartels cropping up everywhere. Parts of the country seem to be utterly lawless.

Much-maligned Indonesia, a 90 percent Muslim country, seems to be a lot more effective at handling these things than the Philippines. Whilst Indonesia has its problems it has a much better idea how to deal with trouble-makers, including jihadists, commies and drug dealers than the Philippines, a 90 percent Catholic country with massive backing from the US.

Why is it that the Philippines, with their undoubtedly tough and brave troops, are so hopeless at keeping the lid on trouble?

Sure now they do, but they had Marcos for God knows how long, not exactly a shrinking violet, and still these problems persisted.

Another poster here talks about how General Pershing handled these insurgents, that was over a century ago and still those insurgents are going strong.

I won’t hold my breath waiting for Duterte to deal with these problems.

Speaking of karaoke machines, I sing this Tagalog song at the beach. I would be willing to bet your better half knows it.
By the way, my wife told me this bombing was almost directly outside the Philippine Air Line office. What I couldn't figure out, until she told me, was this open air market, is on the street, but only open at night, which is why I never remembered seeing it in daylight.

Check this out. 😀

The General Pershing story? There is no evidence it’s more than a myth.

Perhaps so, but my point being that the Philippines, under any regime, can’t seem to get this small, localised insurgency under control. I can’t understand why that is, when one compares the country to its much-maligned neighbour Indonesia.

ALL national headaches are solved with a bullet.

It just is what it is.

And until a people have a will to kill, the problem persists.

Duterte just last week said he used to admire Abu Sayeff and claimed they were not criminals.
