Along with the pledge and My country Tis of Thee, we had the hymn on assembly days in the auditorium that went;
Come, Thou Almighty King,
Help us Thy name to sing,
Help us to praise.
Father, all glorious,
Oer all victorious,
Come, and reign over us,
Ancient of Days.
(Only one verse was used.)
When ever they used a bible quote, it was yay do I walk through the valley of death I fear no evil....... (Not the evil SOB version)
I was in a Public high school that was about 80% Jewish and no one complained or was offended by a Methodist hymn or Christian prayer. How totally sensitive we’ve become, the 50’s kids had tough skin compared to today.
Class of 1956 :-)
