PAOLI, Okla. (KOKH) - Police say a Garvin County woman was arrested after shooting a man in her home.
The Paoli Police Department says 34-year-old Valerie Fowler was arrested Aug. 29 on a complaint of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Just after 7:20 a.m. Monday, police say Fowler found a man in a bedroom with her 16-year-old daughter. Fowler allegedly then shot the man.
The 31-year-old man was medi-flighted to OU Medical Center.
Fowler was arrested and has since bonded out of the Garvin County Jail. Police have not yet identified the man who was shot.

Agree with your sentiments completely. Unfortunately 16 is age of consent in most states, and you can’t shoot someone simply for trespassing. Legally this mom has got trouble.
Though I probably would have done the same and opted to take my chances with a jury.

I read the law as 16 if the other party is 18.
I don’t think it’s 16 if the other party is 31.
This is a quote from the link in post 22, above: Other states use a different method, which takes into account the relative ages of both parties. In these states, such as Oklahoma, the age of consent is determined by age difference between the two parties and is limited by a minimum age. For example, a state may set a minimum age of consent at 14, but limit consent to partners who are within 3 years of their age. This would allow a 16-year-old to lawfully have sex with a 14-year-old, but make it criminal for an 18-year-old to have sex with the same 14-year-old.
In Oklahoma, the age of consent is 16, and the law recognizes an age differential of two years. This means that no person can be convicted of rape or rape by instrumentation with anyone over the age of 14, with that person’s consent, unless the defendant was older than 18 at the time the sexual act occurred. Though statutory rape is a strict liability crime which does not require the prosecutor to prove that an assault occurred, it is still classified as rape under the Oklahoma penal code.
The shootee in this case was well over the age of 18, and can be charged for statutory rape.
