Russian meddling in U.S. election backfiring on Putin, hurting Trump
The Washington Post ^ | August 23, 2016 | James Hohmann

Eight years ago this month, Barack Obama’s high command became very worried after Russia invaded Georgia.

The first-term senator, then 47, had no meaningful national security experience, a liability Hillary Clinton had highlighted throughout the Democratic primaries. And he happened to be vacationing in Hawaii.

Campaigning in Pennsylvania, John McCain recounted a phone call he had just had with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. "Today, we are all Georgians,” the hawkish war hero said, drawing cheers from the crowd of several thousand.

The Obama team was worried about losing voters of Eastern European descent as a result of McCain's hard-line rhetoric on Russia. There are lots of Polish Americans, Ukrainian Americans and Lithuanian Americans who live in swing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. Many came to the United States to escape the Iron Curtain.

Now the script is completely reversed. Those voters for whom McCain fought so hard in 2008 are still out there. They normally would be very inclined to vote for someone like Trump — on paper, they look just like his core supporters — but Putin’s clear preference for him over Clinton (combined with Trump’s naiveté on all things Russia) gives them great pause.

He did? Do you have a link? I thought it was Sorcha Faal claiming it. And Faal posts from the Starbuck’s in Red Square.

How nice of the WaPo to be so worried about Trump and so utterly desperate to help him.

My word, I would have never expected this....

Hogwash. What’s up with the false dichotomy I keep seeing? If I dislike Putin, I prefer Clinton? What sort of nonsense is that?

Ok, so he did not “make it clear.” Poor word choice on your part.

How the paper of Woodward & Bernstein has fallen. They are literally just making stuff up. It’s fiction. The premise is totally unsubstantiated, and the conclusion is totally made up. It’s incredible.

Between this and the Jennifer Rubin column about how the lying criminal is going to win and the dems are going to take back the senate, presented as a foregone conclusion, I feel like the Washington Post has become the paper of record for the Matrix.

Most good propaganda begins with a germ of truth (just ask the Russians). In this case, the germ is that some people of E. European descent are looking askance at Trump because of his bromance with Putin. The WikiLeaks-thing is a sideshow to them.

That being said, the germ is miniscule. Trump may lose some votes, but this is not where the Election will be won or lost. E. Europeans know what it feels like to be stepped-on. Just like when they were warning us about Ted Kennedy's bromance with the Soviets, and were laughed at . . . .

Just a reflection of the Hillary Clinton propaganda narrative.

Get used to it.

Actually, the Russian interference is hurting the Compost. After all, if they are behind the leaks, they are doing the job that the MSM won't do...

Actually, given the Clinton Foundation's connections to Russian money, I don't see the motive for Putin to punk Hillary.

We have to consider the possibility that it is a Russian group doing it without Kremlin permission. Or as one Fox contributor thinks, it could be a dissident element in the NSA. Or we can climb the grassy knoll and wonder if it was the dead DNC staffer murdered a few weeks ago.

Telling a lie often enough can cause it to be mistaken for the truth. It's a communazi tactic also used by democrats and their leaders.

It's a shame the major American political party of the left has to resort to lies to justify its existence.

There is circumstantial evidence that Russians did it. There is no evidence that the hackers were with the Russian goverment. And why would there be? LOL

We need a bogey man. And it’s Putin this time around.

You see it. I see it. But there are a lot of people who get their news from Comedy Central who don’t see it.

Explain the article: Red meat for the left, something for them to yell about at next week neigborhood/family BBQs.

I’ve said before, Joe McCarthy must be rolling underground laughing at all this ‘red scare’. It is now often reported as gospel that “the Russians” hacked the DNC, the Russians hacked the emails, and now The Russians are the secret power behind the political right and all without a shred of evidence being presented to the public. It’s laughable. Next we’ll start hearing Nancy Pelosi start calling for hearings in the House.

Possibly, this is Hillary trying to deflect from her involvement in dragging more than a dozen American tech firms into work at Skolvoko, the “Russian Silicon Valley” that the FBI claims was a sophisticated industrial espionage operation. There has been little reported on that so maybe more will come. I have no doubt that Russia spies on us all the time as often as it can, but the specific charges from the left ring hollow while the charges against HRC are rooted in evidence.
