Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continued to insist Wednesday in a "Hannity" town hall with Fox News' Sean Hannity that there will be "no amnesty" for illegal immigrants, but suggested that he would be willing to "work with them."
His remarks were the latest in a series of recent interviews where he has said he is considering softening a previous pledge made at the onset of his campaign to deport 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. During a "Hannity" town hall on Tuesday, Trump said he was open to "softening" laws dealing with illegal immigrants.
On Wednesday, Trump told Hannity there would be "no citizenship" for those illegal immigrants.
"Let me go a step further- they'll pay back-taxes, they have to pay taxes, there's no amnesty, as such, there's no amnesty, but we work with them," Trump said.
He also spoke of how hard it would be to deport people who have lived in the country for decades and raised a family.
"Now, everybody agrees we get the bad ones out," Trump said. "But when I go through and I meet thousands and thousands of people on this subject, and I've had very strong people come up to me, really great, great people come up to me, and they've said, 'Mr. Trump, I love you, but to take a person who's been here for 15 or 20 years and throw them and their family out, it's so tough, Mr. Trump,' I have it all the time! It's a very, very hard thing."

Don’t be stupid. Or at least make an effort. GA is one of the major destinations for illegals. We are overrun with them. If Trump builds a wall which NOBODY has done, and secures the border which NOBODY has done and tracks down and deports Visa overstays which NOBODY has done and strictly enforces immigrations laws which NOBODY has done we will get rid of most of the illegals. Its a good damn start.
First Trump has to get elected. If he doesn’t get elected he can’t do anything. I don’t care what he has to say to get elected. We cannot have Hillary Clinton.
Sarcasm is so wasted on FR anymore. I have been a devoted Trumper since he said "Build a Wall"
To be accurate, he has said all along that “there are some good ones”, and they have to go back and apply. Even back in the debates he said things like this. And no, he does not do intricate detail on his policies - not a single politician does. But Trump does go further in making commitments and in being more specific than any politician I have ever listened to. The biggest difference between Trump and a Bush or Rubio? Neither Bush or Rubio ever planned on making a single change to the illegal immigrant problem at all. Not even a smidgen. They might have said a few words to the effect that they would make change, but that was straight bull. Those guys do not solve problems for a living - Trump does.
Trump was not in politics when this illegal problem really took off, obviously, but he isn’t afraid of it - as are all of the political class.
Sure more ICE agents and Judges will probably help - but it won’t solve the reason why these people come here. THAT is imperative to correct, as well as sending as many of the people packing as possible.
Making the work/life environment here untenantable will work a miracle.
That and Hillary will destroy the US through the Supreme Court appointees that she would have the luxury of selecting. I, for one, can never live with myself if I get distracted and forget that even for a second.
This is true. I think there are enough speaking out to give him pause on this. There are so many unintended consequences of getting it wrong but I get the impression he is listening and as u pointed out miles ahead of any other candidate we have had on this issue.
“Another thing to keep in mind - once illegals are given official license to stay, Schumer will immediately begin squawking about the unfairness of their paying taxes but not having a voice or a vote. Taxation without representation will be the rallying cry from the extremists as their efforts toward citizenship shift into full-time high gear, knowing that 20-40 million citizens equals permanent democrat control. Trump cannot yield on the status of illegals.”
It’s even worse than Shumer...the courts will step in, declare two Americas, separate and unequal, and immediately give them full citizenship. All the courts need is an act of Congress that tries to split the difference, and they’ll finish it off for the Democrats.
I remember saying that during the immigration wars of the past.
“Did people expect deportation trucks driving through the barrio taking people out?”
Yes, Republicans need help burning black churches. /s
