This is similar to people using "SS" as an abbreviation for Secret Service when most people associate SS with the Nazi police.
Not the most important things we should worry about but thought I'd point that out and do my part to discourage. What happened to just calling them "blacks"? Has that term also become offensive for some reason? When I was growing up, we used Negro and there was nothing derogatory about it. It was just a description of race, like Asian or Hispanic. Whites were often referred to as Caucasian and nobody to my knowledge took offense to that.
I might think that some blacks take offense to African-American because almost all of them were born right here in the USA. My ancestors came from Ireland but I have no desire to identify as Irish-American. I was born here and I'm 100% American!
So much confusion!
Also there are black people from Jamaica and many other places besides Africa.

This is just another PC label in my opinion.
