Howard Johnson’s frankfurters with those wonderful toasted New England style buns and fried clams.
“The left that night, crunchin’ across the mojave desert, their voices echoing thru the canyons of your minds... “ethel, wanna get a cuppa cawfee? howard johnson’s, ahhh there’s a howard jo’s! ... wanna eat some clams? ...”
The fried “clams” were actually strips of huge ocean clams. One of those would have taken up most of the space on the table.
Fried clam strips were the ONLY reason I went to HoJo’s. Especially when they had all-u-can-eat specials. Yum.
