As a former teacher still married to a teacher, I can tell you that this teacher is more right than wrong.

Sorry, you and your school system are more wrong than right and have been for many decades. It’s time to turn back to something that works and actually educates kids.

Eating dinner as a family? Agree 100%.Playing outside? Yes,whatever reasonable amount of "downtime" a kid has is better spent riding a bike, kicking a football or skipping rope than parked in front of a computer.

As for the rest, see Post #47.

As a high school math teacher in the 50’s and 60’s I assigned homework regularly. The concept taught in the classroom needs to be practiced and learned with exercises. Whatever you want to master, you need to practice. In mathematics we call it homework.

Yep. I’m on year 13 of my teaching career, and I almost never assign homework. The only time they get homework is when we are writing an essay... I usually help them with the first 3 paragraphs in class and then ask them to do the last 2 at home.

When I taught(7th grade science) I would always give an assignment that reinforced the days lesson.

I would always finish the lesson 5 minutes early, so the kids got a head start on the assignment. It gave me a chance to see the kids understood the lesson. Any students with difficulty could get extra help. Most kids could finish the assignment
