Exactly my thoughts. He wants to project popularity, a lot of squishes go with a winner and the ‘inevitable’. He has a lot of media experience at the top of his campaign right now. The cancelled events were in blue states that likely would’ve drawn smaller crowds and right now he wants huge numbers. He’ll likely get them in Texas and MS and possibly in FL where he’s very well known.

I was watching a Trump rally on tv the other day. Switching between Fox and CNN. The Fox camera was panned out and you could see a GIANT crowd at this place. The CNN camera was zoomed right into the podium where you could only see the people sitting behind the stage.
