I think one of the reasons many of us don't like the legalization of pot is that it seems to simply relax people to the point where they aren't particularly concerned with bettering themselves. Now, that would be fine with me but for two things: One, if they have children, those children are going to suffer, and two, every failure they have in their lives, liberals will want a government program to address it, and taxes will go up, and up, and up, and up.

And before you assure me that you and all your toking friends are the best parents in the world, let me state that I'm a public school teacher, have been for 12 years, and the overall state of things is that potheads are not terribly involved parents, and their kids get the bright idea that pot is cool. At age 11. And they start using it. End result: they can't get through school, they're too busy giggling hysterically or falling asleep in class, or desperately texting their friends to see where they can get more.

The thing is, pot does this whether it’s legal or not.

People who use pot are going to use it whether it’s legal or not.

The issue is not whether or not it’s legal, but rather, why is this person using pot at a time when he or she is supposed to be paying attention and learning in school?

Why can this person not see or why does this person choose not to see that making the decision to come to class high does not aid them in any way?

It would be no different than a person coming to class drunk. It’s just a stupid self defeating thing to do, so why do they do it?

We have to be able to get the person to say that the purpose of my going to class is to learn, so going to class under the influence of a substance completely defeats that purpose.

Not only are they wasting their time, they are also wasting their pot. Surely there is a better time to use then just prior to class.

“I think one of the reasons many of us don’t like the legalization of pot is that it seems to simply relax people to the point where they aren’t particularly concerned with bettering themselves.”

I have seen folks like this who’ve never touched a drink or cannabis ever in their lives. That aside, who are you to decide if someone should be “bettering themselves?” This is nanny-state talk. Very progressive, immoral & anti-liberty. More “I know better than you do” is NOT conservative in any way.

Bad parents usually do bad job of raising kids. Bad parents can be cannabis users, beer drinkers, thieves & smell bad too. Still, the fact remains, prohibition has created more crime & cost society more than any minute amount it might have prevented.
