Akron is on the CSX line between Pittsburgh and Chicago; it’s the former Baltimore & Ohio line before all the mega-mergers. Akron is also served by five short lines made up of former B&O, New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad properties that were spun off by Conrail. These short lines connect Akron to Canton, Cleveland and other points for the purpose of hook-and-haul service.

Amtrak no longer serves Akron. You have to go to Cleveland to catch a passenger train.

You can go to Alliance, OH for Amtrak. I’ve ridden from DC to Alliance on amtrak within the past year. Got in at 2am though.
