The AR-15 chambered in 5.56mm/.223 are good starter long rifles for the majority of shooters that just plink at the range. It’s not my first choice for most tasks (hunting, self-defense, long range), but it shoots soft and flies flat.
I have an M&P-15 just for my kids can step up from the .22LR. The wife already moved up to the .30-30 and picked up a .308 last weekend.

Agree. What is not commonly known by the leftist, effete anti-gun glitterati is that the 5.56/.223 round is illegal in many states for deer and other large animal hunting. It’s lacking in first shot knock down power. So, I always roll my eyes when these idiots rant about these “powerful” weapons have no business in private hands.
