The point seems circular. Isn’t losing rights part of “paying your debt”? If “all rights” have to be restored, shouldn’t released convicts get any fines back — or be removed from sexual offender lists or from limitations on where they live or from exclusions from the practice of law, etc.?

We have far too many laws as of now. Any FReeper has the chance to a felon at any moment because of how the law works and the overburden of laws in society.

Please note the effect of “felony-flation.” Things have been moved into that category of crime as a politically pandering feelgood measure and little more.
