The World War II veteran dipped his toes in the Atlantic Ocean Saturday morning, ending a cross-country run that started in San Diego.
Local media reported that Andrus was surrounded by hundreds of people including family members and friends who have joined him at different parts along his journey.
He started his trek Oct. 7, 2013 on the sands of San Diego, weaving his way over the months and years through the southern United States until he reached St. Simons Island in Georgia on Saturday morning.
Oh, its great, Andrus told The Brunswick News (http://bit.ly/2blRtVq) after the run was over. Im glad to have finished and met the goal. But I wish it wasnt over.

Great story! Thanks!
Here I am pushing 80 and limping around using my cane or my walker!
Guess I got bucked off way too many horses back in my younger days. lol
Great story!
GOD Bless him. Wonderful. Thanks for the post.
The greatest generation still has it all together....to pursue a dream and the guts to win! Proud to see you made it, Sir, and thank you for your service, then and now.
Saw him when he passed thru here.
Quite a feat for anyone, especially at his age.
I definitely commend him on a job well done.
Run, Earnie, run!
Thank you for your care in not posting AP photos.
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing! This fellow rocks!
The WWII patriotic era . . .a time in my opinion we will never see again in America. . .unless God shows mercy on us. Both my parents were WWII Veterans and patriotism was just part of life.
May God Bless Veteran Ernie Andrus.
This is great.
One might say that it’s only 3 - 4 miles per day, since it took nearly 3 years. But when you consider the days not fit for long times outdoors, you might have to add to that.
So figure 5 miles a day when he was out and about. And, he’s 93!
That is absolutely the kind of 93 year old I want to be!!!
I ran part of the way to the mail box this afternoon.
Not really but I walked kinda fast.
Wonderful photos.
