Erdogan is in my opinion a cynical exploiter and Machiavellian cunner... but mixed with heavy-handed clumsiness, a verrry thin skin and a huuuge chip on the shoulder (rather typical of many Turks one has to say).
But he has such a wonderful new palace!
As for chip on the shoulder it used to be the Greeks who wielded “anticolonialist attitude”. Yanks who experienced it were pleasantly surprised by the pro Western-ness of the Turks. Ataturk was still a living memory.
