Should We Be Having Kids In The Age Of Climate Change?

Standing before several dozen students in a college classroom, Travis Rieder tries to convince them not to have children. Or at least not too many.
He's at James Madison University in southwest Virginia to talk about a "small-family ethic" — to question the assumptions of a society that sees having children as good, throws parties for expecting parents, and in which parents then pressure their kids to "give them grandchildren."
Why question such assumptions? The prospect of climate catastrophe.
For years, people have lamented how bad things might get "for our grandchildren," but Rieder tells the students that future isn't so far off anymore.
He asks how old they will be in 2036, and, if they are thinking of having kids, how old their kids will be.
"Dangerous climate change is going to be happening by then," he says. "Very, very soon."

Actually, I hope that this guy is incredibly successful - I don’t WANT people that believe in Global Warming to have kids. Then we might actually have some hope for this country in a couple of decades and going forward from there.
We went to a relative’s college graduation in 1980 and heard the speaker tell us that by the year 2000 we would have run out of oil and would be “up to our necks in human excrement.” Such a cheerful prospect....but the only excrement was the BS from the podium. Do not listen to anyone who does not believe in God, who created the heaven and the earth and promises to preserve it.
If he had done ANY reading or research on the matter, he would find that the concern now in most of the developed world is population decline. Since the Sixties birth rates have dropped, and now in many countries is below the replacement rate which means that the median population is aging and there are not younger people coming along to fill the gap (and support the elderly when they can no longer take care of themselves).
Some countries like Russia and some of the Asian countries have tried to address this by encouraging marriages and having children. I think it has been working in Russia which has become much more conservative on sexual issues because they think uncontrolled sex is damaging to families and having healthy children in functional families (gee, what a surprise, the U.S. used to believe that), but in other countries there has not been much success.
Of course, the U.S. is running headlong the other direction, corrupting the meaning of marriage and family, encouraging abortion and essentially telling people not to have children (so only those on the dole and welfare will).

Where were you 30, 40, 50 years ago when some AMERICANS were waking to the fact if all we had to protect us was our Constitution, a panel of corrupt judges, and a group of congress critters who could care less. WE came to the realization that to make the decision to have children would not be advantageous to the child’s future. Yes, even that long ago, our government was in a downward spiral which some could see but most ignored.
How can ‘folks’ be progressive when they rethink the thoughts of yore. You call this PROGRESS?
