Entirely possible that the swimmers broke a door in order to get into a locked bathroom. And that a security guard then confronted them and ordered them to pay for the door.
The swimmers may have viewed this as “extortion” or “robbery”.
But, it is also possible that this is the “agreed-upon” version to peacefully end a bad PR situation for Brazil.
I have no idea what happened.
Anyway, we probably won’t learn the full truth until much later (and long after everyone is out of Brazil).
If you arrive at a poorly maintained gas station and it has a broken door and you shake it etc... to get it to open and maybe it falls apart a bit more (or maybe not), and then some guy shows up with a gun claiming you broke his door and demanding $400 for the damage, and you give him the cash... well, I might very well view that as a robbery.
Well, yeah, except for the CCTV showing them kicking down the door. It’s getting harder to circle the wagons around this idiocy. Can you circle one wagon?
