If you can change a tire, you can build an AR-15.

"If you can change a tire, you can build an AR-15."

Only if you can acquire the parts.

Having built many ARs, I would analogize it to changing out the garbage disposal under the sink. It is not as simple as changing a tire, and there are basic pieces of specialized equipment needed to do the job accurately so that the finished tool works reliably over the long haul. [ That is why I prefer the Osprey Defense piston system over the other piston systems, and why the impingement system is the simplest reliable method for running the AR ... the guy who designed the system was a lot more of a genius than me! ]

That said, once you acquire the basic equipment and build your first one, the rest are almost as simple as changing a tire.

Do you mean “assemble” not build? Head spacing on an AR can be a pita.

"...If you can change a tire, you can build an AR-15.

I've read that the AR platform is designed to be serviceable by a person with a 9th grade education.

I built mine from parts with no special tools in my bedroom, when I rented a room and had no access to a workshop.

It was easy.

It was fun.

It was life changing.

“If you can change a tire, you can build an AR-15.”

Imagine what a tool and die guy could build...including any size ammo.
