I don’t see any talk about distilling water. Is this considered impractical?
Distillation is fuel-intensive; it requires some equipment (and perhaps expertise) and not least of all time and attention. It's also not readily portable, if you're in a bug out situation.
Filter straws seem to be the popular thing nowadays.
