The Vikings LEFT Norway, and conquered other places. Some settled in northern France, where they became known as the Normans (Norse Men), went on to invade and conquer England in 1066, and became the aristocracy there.
Others went and conquered southern Italy, and settled there.
So who got left behind in Norway? The slaves, and the Norse who were not interested in taking risks like Vikings.
