I’m aware of some (not all) laws regarding libel and slander, after years as an ink-stained wretch. I think there might be an opening here.

The ultimate defense in a libel case, at least we were told when I took Journalism Ethics, is the truth. It ain’t libel if it’s true. (Libel is for printed falsehoods; slander is for spoken.)

In too many cases today, people take Freedom of the Press as an absolutely right, which it is not. If Freedom of Speech is a “qualified” right (the crowded theater thing) then so too is Press.

I think Donald Trump would be well-served by having a squadron of lawyers ready to pounce at the next falsehood told about him. Some might accuse him of being a wimp, or hiding behind his lawyers, but I think a few high-profile libel or slander cases might help level the playing field. Once such a suit is filed, I believe injunctions can be sought against offending news outlets, which would cause a few ripples.

Until then, I’d be happy to see Trump eject assorted news heads from his next rally. Accuse them of point-blank lying about him, then throw their manicured asses out.

True Americans hate the press and what they’re obviously trying to do to Donald Trump. Make them pay for lying, or repeating somebody else’s lie.

We need to pursue ideas like yours and more.
