He then cared for his Alzheimer ridden mother after she was widowed when Ryan's father died at age 55. He worked summers in college at Oscar Mayer, then as a fitness trainer and waiter. After graduation, he became a speech writer for Empower America, then for Jack Kemp. He then spent time marketing for his family business, Ryan Inc.
