That's part of it. Eighty years of propaganda from union newsletters preaching that DA WORKIN' MAN needs the BIG STICK of Government to "level the playing field" for him is endemic. The fact that a lot of the manufacturing economy collapsed in the 70's and so many people are reliant on government jobs is another. Here in Allegheny County 7 of our Top Ten employers are governments, universities, or nonprofits reliant upon the public trough. One of the other three is Walmart.
