This is like an instant relay of the Reagan campaign, He was called "dangerous", "inexperienced in foreign affairs", "trigger happy" and any other name they could think of to scare the American electorate. He was also facing opposition from the liberal wing of the GOP and was down double digits in the polls in August 1980.

I know then isn't now but there are glaring similarities.

Not to this extent. This is way beyond anything that was said about Reagan, and Republicans did not diss him so spectacularly.

This might push many Republicans to leave the Trump camp.

I remember the night before the election, Pres. Reagan had a 2% favorable rating. Because of the liberal wing opposition of which Bush 1 was a member, Pres. Reagan chose him for VP. ?Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

He was also WAAYY down in the polls at this point in time.
