The Texas senators decision to not endorse the GOP nominee is looking pretty good right now.
WASHINGTON Immediately after Sen. Ted Cruz walked offstage at the GOP convention in Cleveland last month without endorsing Donald Trump, the Texas conservative and former presidential primary rival appeared to have made a grave miscalculation. (snip)
But after a week of Trump repeatedly setting himself on fire (declining even to wait for the previous fire to go out), politicians who endorsed Trump, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), have found themselves feeling the heat, while Cruzs decision is starting to look like the better long-term bet. The panic within the party spread so much last week that several high-profile Trump supporters reportedly began contemplating staging an intervention with the candidate.
And Cruz, in rare fashion, has let the fire rage without adding his own gasoline. Hes doing a remarkable job staying quiet and letting people come to that conclusion on their own, said Amanda Carpenter, a longtime adviser to Cruz.
While those close to Cruz were confident the decision not to endorse would be the right one in the end, the quickness with which its panning out has been a bit of a surprise. Trump blew his own convention. While predictable, it still boggles the mind it happened, Carpenter said. Trump is like a tornado. You know its going to be devastating when it rips through your house but the aftermath is still shocking.
Cruz is well-positioned for a 2020 presidential bid should he succeed in resuscitating his image he took home nearly 600 delegates this cycle with the aid of an impressive grassroots organization. (snip)

I was an ardent Cruz supporter. Trump was not even 2, 3 or 4 on my list. I support Trump today because he is the only thing standing between the Supreme Court and Hillary Clinton, the hard core socialist quasi Marxist and totally corrupt liar and non indicted criminal. She is a mortal danger to the Constitution. The Constitution is but two supreme court justices from death.
Cruz thinks he will inherit the GOP after four years of Hillary. He will inherit nothing as the country will be finished after Hillary appoints at least two and probably three supreme court justices. There is one open seat and Ginsburg is just staying on until the election. She will retire after the election. Statistically one more supreme court justice will die in the next 8 years. Best case scenario is a 5 4 split in favor of extreme liberalism. Worst case is 6 3 split if Hillary wins. The fate of the nation rests on the next 2 or 3 supreme court justices. GOD BLESS ANTHONY SCALIA, the Defender of the Constitution!
I sent the Cruz campaign money and not a small amount. I look forward to seeing him lose his next primary. I will campaign for and donate to any conservative opponent of Cruz.
Cruz did not do what is best for the nation but what he thought is best for him. He has betrayed us.
And the stakes are greater than Cruz’s insatiable ambition or the survival of a party.
We’re talking about an ongoing experiment in republican government: whether a free people can continue governing ourselves, or whether we continue on our current path to a statist nightmare, e.g. just today, per Obama’s apparatchiks, gunsmiths are gun “manufacturers”.
Agreed, see my post #121
.
You’re doing a yeoman’s work to defeat Trump with your childish divisiveness.
Take a vacation. nobody needs you or your kind.
LOL, because I or FReepers here won't give in to your Cruz butthurt????
LOL, LOL, LOL, that's some really strong butthurt you got going there.
I repeat, Cruz turned out to be a douchebag, get over it.

Shall we not alienate McCain supporters by calling McCain a douchebag?
The Republican Party will lose a SIGNIFICANT percentage of its traditional voters in the event of a Trump loss, caused by Republican "leaders".
If you want, he’s definitely done some things that may deserve that. I never have and don’t understand why you’d bring that up.
Cruz is on a whole other level as he demonstrated throughout the campaign. I was too once a Cruz supporter but he put his own ambitions ahead of what is good for the country and it appears, he is still doing it. He definitely deserves to be called that but that is my opinion, just like anyone else here that got suckered in by Ted Cruz at some point.

Oh, I’m just weighing in with your arguments earlier.
The argument is going that we shouldn’t alienate Cruz supporters by calling Cruz a douchebag.
Then does that mean we can’t call McCain a douchebag? Or Kaisch? Or even Hillary?
Personally, I say that we call a douche a douche, and Cruz is a douche.
Probably should have given you some context; sorry.
Well he might have like 10 supporters left.
That’s cool, it’s just amazing how true Clint Eastwood’s words the other day saying we are a nation full of pu**ies when I see a post from someone like editor-surveyor.
This site is behind Trump, 100%. He wants to come in here and basically say if we don’t respect Cruz, he’s not voting Trump. That’s just childish because the terrible alternative is Hillary.
We have every right to not respect Cruz for how terrible his campaign turned out but he’s using that as a threat to not vote for Trump. If he can’t see what is really important, (saving this country) he can go crawl back in his safe space and proves Clint Eastwood correct about some Americans.

A man is as good as his word. Cruz is not good. Not to be trusted. Not a man of honor.
Cruz has shown himself to be a flat out liar. His pledge in the primary ment nothing.
Cruz is every bit as slimy as he looks.
We butted heads a few times during the primary, but you’ve shown some real integrity with your comments on this thread. I genuinely admire that. Well said.
Trump demands a recount!
Hillary may steal the fraudulent election like Sander’s scam. Forever more when Hillary is before a crowd she will hear them chant, “Lock her up!”
Demand the recount, re-election now.
Cruz is well-positioned for a 2020 presidential bid should he succeed in resuscitating his image
From what party?
On message ...
Hillary is Death.
Trump is Life.
Choose.

Now you hate me.”
