The media is immune, totally. They only way they lose their place is a public awakening, something I pray for but don't expect to happen. The actors are secure as long as their ratings stand.
And politics has always been about picking losers (thought of as picking winners, but just look at it in reverse). That damage is ever-present.
I think the people know the system is rigged. The difference is that the Bernie people want to unrig it in favor of communism, and the Trump people want to unrig in favor of the intent of the constitution.
