Yes. race is the veneer that hides the real problem—economic opportunity. Historically, the way to advance oneself economically has been through proper training/education. This is best done in an encouraging home environment that values such training (which is more readily accomplished in a two-parent home). The disintegration of the black family as a result of the Great Society ensures blacks (and poor whites) will have an increasingly difficult time getting (or caring to get) the necessary training that would allow them to get on in the world.

What was your ambition in life? Did you even really even think about what you wanted to be, and what it would take to achieve it?
I still maintain the real gap is the “Ambition Gap”. What do people in the Hood aspire to be? Rappers? Drug Dealers? Basketball players?
