Several years ago my son was badly injured on a deployed boomer. They went full speed toward Azores, intending to evac via helo after permission to surface. It was then decided to use a RIB when in range.
RIB ride to Azores, P-3 to NAS JAX, C-9 Nightingale to Andrews and several operations. They saved his arm, but he lost 30% or so of strength, grip, etc.
The RIB to the Azores was probably the worst part of the whole ride. And probably did more damage.
