Instead of stealing Hillary’s emails and all the sweet porn on the DCCC computers, the FBI says the super-secret hackers appear to have been after money and credentials from donors. Instead of just breaking and entering like normal criminals, they created a fake website that looked like the DCCC’s main donation page, but any information and money entered on the site was sent to an I.P. address similar to one used by the alleged Russian government-linked computer nerds responsible for the DNC breach. Subject line of DCCC fundraising email at 6pm: "We're doomed." At 9pm: "Totally panicked." Yesterday at 10pm: "Giving up hope."

There is no need to "hack into" DCCC in order to set up a phony DCCC lookalike website. Just set up the phony website. Donors don't have "get into this website" passwords - they just enter the required personal and payment information, and they are in. E.g., I dontated to Trump, and I have no "Trump website password."

The fraudsters then need to steer traffic to the fake website. This is typically done with a near-same name, dccc.org vs. dccc.net, for example. FBI does have jurisdiction on this sort of fake website crime.

This is typical press garbage. Make up some bafflegab, deliver in excited and breathless tone.
