Back in 1967-68 the was a gay “problem” with the Captain and members of the crew aboard the USS Kearsarge. Navy personnel at that time referred to the “Kearsarge” as the “QueerBarge”.
From 1966 on the Navy repair ship USS Puget Sound became known as the “USS Pubic Mound” because of the hetero canoodlings among its mixed crew of men & women, kind of the Love Boat of its time.
At least the dalliances on that ship were of the normal kind.
