I find Snopes useful to identify internet hoaxes, but it is unreliable as to any issue with a political angle. They definitely tilt left.

Agreed. Snopes perhaps somewhat works for reading about internet hoaxes and other very harmless stuff.
For other more serious research, that website (due to left-leaning ownership) is completely worthless for political data.
