I was stationed at Travis AFB, CA in the early 90s. AF1 would often land to refuel when returning from the far east.

On two separate occasions they asked for volunteers to “catch” and refuel the plane arriving later that day. Something you’d think an airman would be honored to do. On both occasions they wound up needing to select the “volunteers”.

And contrast that to when Dubya was in office. The Daily Dose of Dubya thread here on FR had hundreds of photos with beaming soldiers standing next to the President.
