The topic is not ‘citizenship’ but ‘natural born’ US citizenship. Our founders were old ‘white’ men, remember... it was not until the 19th amendment where woman was given the right to vote. The ‘natural born’ clause requirement was placed in our Constitution, from the get go. The ‘natural born’ clause came from Vattel not English law.

Begin with a little light reading, Horace Binney’s The Alienigence of The United States under the present naturalization laws, second edition, 1853. The preface should get you started. And I will mention Rome - but you may not know why.
