Trumps newfound lead is also boosted by a sharp increase in support from whites without college degrees. In the new poll they break 62% for Trump to 23% for Clinton”
I’m still processing the above, and have one other observation:
These people, working class whites, were THE DEMOCRAT BASE until no more than a generation ago - until then, it would have been the Democrats with the 62%. The Dems left them for minorities and other special interest groups, and THEY WERE UP FOR GRABS.
The IDIOTS that run the Republican Party were TOO STUPID to figure this out and kept trying to fight for Democrat special interests, rather than grabbing these people. While their numbers are proportionally less now than in the past (in the past they were likely over 50% of the electorate, now around 35%), they are still HUGE NUMBERS - and Romney sent them packing with his 47% remark. Trump definitely will not do that - once Trump reaches people, they stay with him, as the Dems will learn when their post-convention non-bounce polling takes place in a week.
And I'm thinking the democrats internal polling isn't looking so good and they've realized (hopefully to late) that they still need moderate working class whites to win. Which is why they quickly bumped the far lefties like Elizabeth Warren and minorities like Julian Castro off the VP list for a "Joe Biden lite" in Tim Kaine, what they don't realize is that even though Tim Kaine might be slightly more centrist on a couple social issues, he is as much of an open borders internationalist as Bernie Sanders.
“...once Trump reaches people, they stay with him...”
Good point, I agree with you. I thought Donald was crazy when he first started talking about running but now I am totally in his camp, he can count on my vote. I think the big factor is that, regardless of whether you think he is as great as he seems to think he is, he at least seems REAL! The first one since Reagan who seems to tell it as he sees it with a, “let the chips fall where they may” attitude. I would like to see more relaxed humor from him, on the order of Reagan’s comment about not taking advantage of his opponent’s youth and inexperience. Even Mondale thought it was funny, my best memory of Fritz is his laughing at that comment.
