Cruzs Conscience
Cruz played dog in the manger at the Republican convention. Someone should have whispered in his ear these words from Omar Khayyam:
" “The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.”
Some say his phrase vote your conscience was just a call to support the entire ticket. I dont. I think the delegates who booed him had it right. As my friend JM Hanes observed:
"Vote your conscience" is a veritable NeverTrump theme song, so it seems entirely fair to construe it is asking folks not to vote for Trump, even if not actively soliciting votes for Hillary. Hence the need to remind folks of down ticket races, so the folks who abstain from the presidential vote won't just stay home.
I think Charles Krauthammer had it right.

Nails it again!
The smirk and ridicule down to the front rows of the seated New York delegation, (Trump family, in particular) is all any with common sense need know that Cruz was metaphorically ‘mooning’ Trump and his nomination.
I watched this little twerp and he knew exactly what he was doing. He has never fooled me. His explanation of ‘natural born’ citizenship in that debate, exposed him as a pathological liar. Ted Cruz is his own worst enemy and now there is NO doubt.
And, BTW, Rush is just nuts if he think Trump “set this up” because he “entered the room” at just the right time.”
1) Eric was speaking next. Trump came to hear his son, not Lyin’ Ted.
2) Lyin’ Ted went long, so I doubt Trump expected to hear any of it.
Rush gets spoon fed what he says now days... probably outsources his research to Cuba. I read on some thread that Ted Cruz submitted a 7 minute speech, and then came out and gave a different speech... Ted Cruz broad-casted what his intentions were, when he beat up his wife, claiming he was suspending his campaign in IN. He specifically referenced the 1976 GOP convention... As if he was the reincarnation of Ronald Reagan..
Rush blew what little credibility he had left when he bellowed that Ted Cruz was like Ronald Reagan... That is now programmed forever in ol Teddy's brain.
Ted Cruz has destrroyd himself politically forever. I woud suggest that John Kasich get on the Trump train real quickly....because he is literally seconds away from totally destroying his own political career. I can assure him...he will not be at home, hanging out with the likes of, Ted Cruz, The “traitor” Bushies, the losers Mitt Romney & John McCain, nutcase, Bll Cristol, and, “Traitor/Turncoat, Paul Ryan, etc.!!!
So what if Trump did “set this up”; Cruz certainly tried — desperately, and in a very lengthy fashion — to “set this up”.
Reflexive snark from Limbaugh. He is still highly protective of boyfriend Cruz. He still thinks it is his job to negatively analyze Trump, to proclaim the truth about Trump as he thinks he knows it. Did anyone ever hear him do that to his friend “W”?
Rush has gone liberal Goldwater on US... He has his bank account and now he can live like a liberal.
I am with you regarding the hyphenated-conservative phrases. Rush and the rest of the hyphenated conservatives have been playing us.
I agree on Rush. And it is severely affecting his ability to analyze what is really happening.
I said early in the primary, Rush was NOT going to “get” Trump fully because he couldn’t see why people did NOT like Cruz. Rush thought every conservative should love Cruz, and never “went there,” really delving into why Cruz did NOT appeal to conservatives and evangelicals.
I have seen 2-3 different references to a “different speech,” but nothing concrete. One is Newt’s teleprompter, but Newt went off script. On the prompter, it looked like he was confirming that Ted endorsed, so he had to change things.
Trump also said he changed it, but no “pwoof” as Lanny Davis used to say.
Rush worships the Wall Street Bull... and he looks out for his bank account first and foremost. Sadly, I funded a portion of his ill gotten gains... My deception, so I will take responsibility for that. Everything now, that comes out of his mouth is suspect to me. I will occasionally read what he spouts, but I refuse to listen to him any longer.
Ted jumped the shark when he criticized the rioters who beat up people who were on their way to a Trump rally, and in the next sentence criticized Trump.I yield to no one in holding the view that Trump was egregiously disrespectful of the 11th commandment - but criticism, even of that, did not belong in the same statement as condemnation in the strongest terms of the use of thugs to break up a political rally. Never mind the same paragraph.
Real problems with Trump - but never Hillary. At least we have a promise of wise and disciplined judges for SCOTUS with Trump . . .
Likewise... I think that Trump plane fly over, when Ted was apologizing to his supporters in Cleveland, for NOT hugging all his supporters in IN, because he was crying... sent Ted over the Pokémon cliff. Cruz sure has NOT denied he submitted a different speech.
You’re right - she nailed it...
Nailed It!
>>> You can be for security, law and order, and the rule of law, or you can be for Hillary. <<<
“The notion that he refused to endorse Trump because of personal pique, his explanation the following morning, does evince that his move was not out of principle as his still ardent supporters claim. In any event it distorts the genesis of the attacks which in both cases were started by Cruz supporters. In the case of Heidi Cruz supporters instigated the kerfuffle when a pro-Cruz Utah PAC circulated a nude picture of Melania and in the case of his father, in an interview Trump responded to a National Enquirer article only after the senior Cruz attacked Trump.”
“And then theres the issue of the pledge. In order to receive valuable mailing lists and support from the RNC all the candidates pledged to support the eventual nominee. If my reading of Cruz speech which matches that of the audience is correct, Cruz violated that pledge. So much for his principles.”
Yes, too bad for Eric that he followed right behind Cruz. The fact that Cruz stirred such angst and disappointment for all to see, IMHO, caused great distraction for Eric’s speech. (Another reason to be angry with Cruz.)
You betcha, but I think it's even worse than that.
I think McCain and Romney liked it when their candy was stolen from them in public in some weird and freaky, politically sadomasochistic sort of way.
But besides that, it really wasn't their candy anyway. Why should they care?
Their stuff is safely snug and tucked away back home, discreetly out of the public eye.
He said that journalists get copies of the speeches ahead of time, and that the speech he saw ended before the vote your conscience line.
If this is true, then that also explains the press so quickly shouted plagiarism after her speech.
