Hillary Clinton's selection of Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) as her running mate is already creating one distortion of reality: that Kaine is somehow a "centrist." His American Conservative Union rating score in his first three years in the Senate is 0.00. But here was The Wall Street Journal opening up its coverage tonight:
The other distortion is any journalist touting Kaine as a "devout Catholic" or "traditional Catholic" without noting it would be more accurate to call him a devout and traditional Democrat. A "devout" believer in the church would champion in public its pro-life stance and its opposition to redefining traditional marriage.
As Brent Bozell and I recently explained:
Far-left is middle of the road on the media spectrum. The Washington Post has been especially guilty of suggesting over the years that Kaine was as pious as conservative stalwart Ken Cuccinelli, a man they place on the “far right.” In 2012, the Post profile of his GOP opponent George Allen suggested he was seen as a “colossally insensitive brute,” but this is how the Post began a Kaine profile:
Its not unusual, on an election-year Sunday, to find a white candidate in a black church. But Tim Kaine, swaying this month to the gospel groove at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in a poor Richmond neighborhood, wasnt on the campaign trail. He was taking a break from it at his home parish.
Tim Kaine has a perfect 100 score from the NARAL folks, and and perfect 100 with the gay-left Human Rights Campaign. But to the Post, hes practically the Popes right hand, swaying in the pews at Mass. A few weeks ago, Kaine and Warner signed a letter to the HHS Secretary (with other liberals like Barbara Boxer) complaining about insurers failing to provide proper payment for contraceptives through Obamacare.
The Post did this in 2005, too, when Kaine first ran for Governor: Kaine, the Democratic candidate for governor of Virginia, said that teaching at a fledgling Jesuit school in El Progreso [Honduras] gave his life direction, inspiring him to public service and rekindling his devotion to Catholicism.
When the Post touts your deep Catholic roots as positive, it probably means youre a liberal opposed to Catholic orthodoxy.
We borrowed from our colleague Scott Whitlock, who noticed this tendency in a Post profile in 2012 headlined "A Man of Faith and Practical Politics: While Running for Senate in Virginia, Kaine Finds Time to Wrestle With His Conscience." The first three paragraphs of the article by Steve Hendrix touted the pro-choice Democrat's Catholicism:
It’s not unusual, on an election-year Sunday, to find a white candidate in a black church. But Tim Kaine, swaying this month to the gospel groove at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in a poor Richmond neighborhood, wasn’t on the campaign trail. He was taking a break from it at his home parish.
“How you doing, brother?” said Peter Thompson, 53, a lean black man in a green fedora, hugging the round-faced Kaine on the church steps.
The part-time Pizza Hut cook and the former governor have known each other since Kaine joined the church almost three decades ago. “We helped start the Men’s Group together,” Thompson said.
Hendrix assured readers that "religion saturates both life and politics for Kaine." He added, "A former missionary in rural Honduras, he talks frequently of how Catholicism informs his views on race and poverty and his deep embrace of cultural diversity, which he hails as 'God’s rich tapestry.'"
Wow. Let the suck-up begin.
He’s a crooked as the Canckles are Fat.
He’s as crooked as the Canckles are Fat.
We all already know the media is bought and paid for by the DNC..Kaine is NO centrist..he is VERY PRO ABORTION..he supports abortion after 20 weeks..he also boycotted Netanyahu’s speech when he spoke in front of Congress..Kaine also appointed a Pro Hamas guy to his Immigration board and he supports the Muslim Brotherhood
VP Pick, Tim Kaine, a Catholic?
Democratic VP choice, Tim Kaine, has been widely identified as a Roman Catholic. It is also reported that he publicly supports freedom of choice for abortion, same-sex marriage, gay adoptions, and the ordination of women as priests. All of these positions are clearly contrary to well-established Catholic teachings; all of them have been opposed by Pope Francis as well.
Senator Kaine has said, My faith is central to everything I do. But apparently, and unfortunately, his faith isnt central to his public, political life.
Does this “devout Catholic” favor the legal murder of babies, as all the other devout Democrats, who claim they are Catholics, do? God definitely knows the answer and will require that they accept responsibility for this grevious sin.
“centrist” means statist
Pelosi claimsto be a devout orthodox catholic and understands the faith better than the priests and bishops do. For context.
REAL Catholics don’t kill babies.
Kaine is Cursed by God just as Cain in the BIBLE was.
I don’t get the “Catholic” thing.
BTTT
Mother Teresa's declaration may be the most powerful statement in 2016 from which to begin discussions of murder, ambushes, and terrorists among us.
The sole reason these rights were deemed unalienable is that both are derived from the Creator--not from the mother or father, and not from government or judicial decision. What is "granted" by human decision also can, by implication, be withheld.
"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them (life and liberty)," said Thomas Jefferson.
"The world is different now. . . and yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forefathers fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God." - John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address
That understanding underlies every other consideration embodied in our Declaration of Independence and every protection of our Constitution. It is the very basis of our rights to life and liberty, of laws to protect them, and it distinguishes ours from other forms of government.
When we fail to acknowledge that foundation of our liberty, then we risk liberty itself for future generations, for where does the right to choose who lives and who does not really end?
That is why the question is of vital importance in each election. Already, we have deprived millions of their Creator-endowed rights to life and liberty, and our nation must be weaker for their loss. We need leaders who understand the implications and potential consequences of departing from our founding principles.
In recent decades, technological advances have enabled us to observe the characteristics and actions of God's tiniest creations in the womb. Unlike previous generations who could not see, we have no excuse for imagining that these are mere blobs of tissue labeled "fetuses." In their early weeks, we now can see that they are living babies who will continue on to possess life and liberty if we do not "destroy" both. Indeed, they are simply smaller versions of ourselves.
Questions on the economy, taxes, threats from terrorists, health care--all are considerations at this election time. One, however, is basic to all others for me. Who will best protect the underlying premise of our Constitution--and the lives and liberties of millions yet unborn?
Promises are illusive and cheap. This voter will examine each candidate's previous voting record carefully on all issues, because past actions are the best predictors of future decisions.
I sure won’t. I thought the media was corrupt before....those DNC emails are something else.
See my Post #16. This is a relevant question at this election time.
In his three years in the senate, the ACU gives Kaine a conservative rating of zero.
