When my grandsons were this age you would not have found them happy at all to be dressed up in a suit and tie being forced to appear on TV and continuously reminded to smile at Midnight, long past their bedtime. Baron did quite well, all things considered. He is also a totally different generation and being ten years younger than his youngest stepsister has been raised in an entirely different world. Same father as the other kids but the comparisons should definitely end there IMO.

A friend of mine brought over his three granddaughters to visit; ages 12, 10, and 8.
The two younger girls had a ball driving my tractor. The older one declined. But after watching the fun the other two had she finally joined in and ended up with a huge grin on her face.
The challenge at age 12 is that one is not quite a child still but not quite an adult. Such a youngster can be very self-conscious while yearning to join the adults, though not very secure in their position.
