Gingrich was pure brilliance at the convention. I’ve done my share of Newt criticizing, but I was starstruck by how excellently he handled Cruz. Score one for Newt—a BIG one.
To put things in perspective, for a Politician, giving a keynote speech at a Presidential Convention is career defining event at least equal to an actor or musician receiving an Oscar or Emmy Award- only with very high stakes and a hundred times the pressure.
Its really scary getting up an giving a televised speech (from memory, no teleprompter ) in a high pressure environment to a nation audience of millions. No matter who you are or how much experience you have the butterflies are swarming in your stomach and and you need to stop and hit the head for an NP before getting on stage and stepping up to the podium
Anything disruption that knocks you off your game could cause you to choke on stage which is your worst nightmare.
Yet Newt brilliantly re drafted his speech between Cruz and Newt's slot and to include his remarks on Cruz's speech and then gave it from memory to a national televised audience un rehearsed and under serious pressure to a national televised audience.
That's not just tough, that's double tough.
If that's the way it really went down, its kind of like the political equivalent of hitting a bases loaded home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the tied World Series by one point
