Gingrich pointed out that in his speech that came right after Cruz. Ted Cruz said, "you can vote your conscience for anyone who will uphold the constitution" meaning that Trump was irrelevant and anyone would do as the nominee.
Ted Cruz was implying that anyone would do as the nominee least of all Trump. This was a play on words to insult Trump. Gingrich turned this around and masterfully scolded Ted Cruz in public for being such a sore loser.
It was a subtle dig. Newt made it look like Cruz had inadvertently done the right thing by giving advice that had to be followed by voting for Trump. Ha ha!
Good luck Cruz ever being nominated.
Lemons to lemonade courtesy of Newt!
I like Newt, he’s a fast one. I hope he has a very visible role in the new administration.
Other than a small group of people who have suffered massive and embarrassing losses, the party is VERY united. Great love in the arena
Gingrich had to think on his feet but his instinct should not have been to be clever nor magnanimous. He should have been mean.

This is a fun convention.
that excludes helleri more than anyone
It’s more united than the 80 DNC Convention when Teddy Kennedy could barely even bring himself to endorse Carter.
This worked pretty well too. Newt embarrassed Cruz publicly and made it clear Cruz did not get away with anything here. Everyone was onto him.
Gingrich was brilliant! I have never been so proud and impressed by him (and I always have been) as I was last night when he so eloquently and decently defended the Republican party and it’s nominee. What a great man!

He was mean in a very smart way...think about it. He made Cruz look all the smaller by what he said.

Newt’s command of the language was unbelievable. He slapped Cruz publicly and did it in such a classy way. I quite enjoyed that very much.
Naaa... The damage done to Cruz is done. Newt handled it well. No need to be mean.

Go No: Gingrich had to think on his feet but his instinct should not have been to be clever nor magnanimous. He should have been mean.

Newt was brilliant and in front of millions of people on the fly. I am sure Trump took note of this and elevated Newt to a special place of distinction. Trump will reward him handsomely.
Cruz is now in the manure pile.
As someone who supported Cruz until Indiana, I have been thinking lately that he has turned into a right-wing Christian version of Ted Kennedy, which is not a compliment.
Cruz may be in the manure pile, but he still thinks he's going to find a pony in there somewhere.
