Which is what I wish people would focus on, much like what Paul Ryan did earlier in the week. Ask for unity in so many words without explicitly endorsing Trump.

Cruz certainly could have phrased his speech in a way that made it clear he wants Hillary defeated, even if he didn’t explicitly endorse Trump. He wouldn’t have been booed if he had even just done that. Naturally, Cruz is smart enough to know that he was giving Hillary a lot of help and fodder. And she took advantage of it immediately by quoting him. One can only assume that he believes if Hillary wins, he can be the one to swoop in in 2020 and win the presidency. Fat chance of that.
