Cruz could easily have endorsed trump without compromising himself. He only needed to focus his speech on the will of the voters and the need to defeat Hillary.

Congratulations, Ted Luz. You’ve successfully made such a complete and utter fool of yourself in front of the entire nation that Donald Trump shot past you in the race for candidacy like a Ferrari past a crippled turtle. That really takes some effort.
The amazing thing is how Trump, who never ran for office before, has better political instincts by far than Cruz. Actually, the contrast Ted presents is better for Trump than any endorsement might have been. Cruz’s meanness is the perfect foil for Trump’s humanity. Cruz’s inappropriateness is the perfect foil for Trump’s adroitness. I could go on.
