The active duty strength of the US military is about 1.3 million with another 800 thousand reserves. How many of these would be willing to die for Obama in violation of their oaths, I don't know but I doubt it would be anywhere near half. 3% of the US population, the percentage that actually fought in the American Revolution and a reasonable estimate of those willing to put down any coup, is around 10 million. Obama's forces would be outnumbered about 10 to 1 but would be much better trained and equipped.

Failed coups degenerate into civil wars. My advice: Study the history of the Spanish Civil War and get to know your neighborhood's friendly retired Eighteen Bravo.

Good idea, But do not neglect a study of the very intense four months of the Finnish civil bloodletting that took place following an attempted coup by treaty to force the people of Finland into the Soviet Union. Four months later, about one percent of the nation's population was dead...and their situation and character was MUCH more like ours than that of Franco's Falange or the Republican Popular Front of Spain.
