Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Chief of Staff Peter Altmaier said on Tuesday evening in response to the Würzburg axe attack that refugees are no more likely than anyone else to commit terrorist atrocities.
All the evidence from the last 12 months shows that the danger of terrorism posed by refugees “is not larger or smaller than that in the rest of the population”, Altmaier told broadcaster ZDF.
The chief of staff was making the comment after a 17-year-old who had arrived in Germany in 2015 claiming to have fled from Afghanistan, attacked passengers with an axe on a train near Würzburg, seriously injuring four people. …

Peter Altmaier is simply lying, probably to protect his job and the job of his boss. It’s not just a lie, but an outrageous lie.
That will certainly backfire.
This is an example of the haughty behavior that has disillusioned the people with the “establishment”. The average German has just witnessed the carnage in Paris, Nice, saw women openly molested in public German areas and had an Afghan migrant taking to commuters with an axe justifying his bizarre behavior with ISIS ideology. It is akin to George Bush solemnly proclaiming that Islam is the “religion of peace” and Obama refusing to acknowledge the role of the perversion of Islam in the terrorism. The people are angry and will not tolerate overt obfuscations and stupidity. They want change.
