Where can Newt best be used? Special Assistant to the President, I think, a position where there are virtually no bounds and he can focus and pivot as needed.
It would be a waste of his unique talents by making him a bureaucrat or even diplomat. He needs 360 degree purview and the ear of the Boss.

After World War II, Harry Truman appointed Herbert Hoover to chair a commission looking into streamlining government and figuring out what functions needed to be reduced or abolished.
Gingrich might be a good choice for something similar.
