‘Cruz will tell an interviewer, “You know, a lot of people forget I supported him all along.”’

And he will have quotes to prove it. Very early in the race Cruz said Trump was “terrific,” and made several other similarly positive comments. If Trump succeeds as we hope he will, Cruz will trot out those early compliments, and he and his supporters will pretend none of the Trump-trashing happened.

It’s their MO.

It is the MO of slimy guys in business, politics, showbiz, sports, wherever slimy guys congregate. Argue vociferously against the plan until the plan proves wildly successful. Then claim you supported it 100 percent all the time.

I have the opposite hunch, Ted Cruz will endorse Donald Trump and do so with as much conviction as he can summon up. He will do this because he knows that the nation has to go one way or the other at this point in time and there are no second chances. I don’t know what’s in his mind or heart going into this opportunity to speak, but he may not have totally decided. He should do so. Take a minute to imagine America after four more years of Democrat rule. In some ways Hillary Clinton could be worse than Obama. I realize that is a very difficult thing to imagine. Ted Cruz can have a future in national politics, but only if he endorses Trump and assists to whatever extent is possible in getting Trump elected. I think one Trump term will naturally lead to another, health being the only constraint, so if Ted Cruz really wants to be president, he should think about continuing on with the gains made under Trump, in 2024. And he can only appear like a credible successor if he co-operates and does not appear to be a plotter as Mitt Romney appears to be.

Personally, I am not convinced that any of the Plotting Ted narrative holds water. This is partly conjecture based on a lack of endorsement. But maybe the plan for some time has been to create a bit of suspense and offer what Trump supporters will see as a welcome surprise. And frankly, I can’t imagine Cruz being invited to speak on any other basis.

So we shall see, and someone will be right, others wrong in varying degrees, about this, but whatever happens, I am behind Donald Trump until his course is run.

God bless the United States of America.
