CLEVELAND--The band of Republican delegates mounting a last-ditch effort to snatch the nomination away from Donald Trump is claiming a last-minute victory in a push to force every delegate to vote on the party's rules on the convention floor.
Delegates Unbound, a group of delegates that support unbinding the delegates to free them from their pledge to vote for Trump, announced Monday afternoon it had secured enough support to force that roll call vote.
The delegates aim to vote down the rules package in its entirety in order to force the party back to the drawing board under pressure to unbind delegates. But the effort will likely only gum up the process, as it remains extremely unlikely the effort can find the 1,237 delegates needed.
Despite every obstacle thrown in our way, the movement of all the stakeholders involved in this effort have gained a majority of the delegates in 10 states," said Dane Waters, co-founder of Delegates Unbound, in a statement released just before the convention began.
"Now we take this fight to the floor."
The group needed majorities in seven states in order to force that roll call vote, so the effort appears to have eclipsed that mark. But that's still far short from the majority needed.
In most years, rules are confirmed with a perfunctory voice vote that takes little time. But it appears that the group will move to force the time-consuming change of plans to query each delegate.
It's the last breath of the Never Trump movement, which lost a series of efforts during last week's rules committee meetings aimed at unbinding convention delegates and passing other changes to decentralize power from the Republican National Committee and restrict primaries to registered Republicans.
“Too many lawyers...not enough Americans.”
Clearly too many lawyers in politics, and they’ve generally done a poor job. Maybe the ones who are actually good at practicing law don’t go into politics.
I knew something was not right about Cruz when the Natural Born Citizen problem popped up. The more I dug into his Canadian background, the more repulsed I became about Cruz’s talk about being a “Constitutional Republican.” Then, when the Cruz attack lies started up against Trump, I began wondering if Cruz was setting up the line of attacks the Democrats would use to win it for Hillary. That made me even more repulsed. While Trump was fighting fellow Republicans, the Democrats were painting him in a corner, using lies that the Cruz campaign had created for them. Now, much of Trump’s energy will be to undo the paint job that Cruz did as the prep work for the Hillary campaign.
If anything, Cruz should publicly say, “Mr. Trump, I am sorry for the misrepresentations,” and set the record straight. He needs to set the record straight line by line so the Hillary campaign has no chance to regurgitate the lies he dumped on the political landscape. Also, to his followers, they need to understand the truth about Trump, so they will not continue to indulge in their negativity about Trump. They should know that people are exploiting those lies to divide the Republican effort against Hillary.
I do not have a smart phone to tell me what “DIAF” means. What does “DIAF” mean?
DIAF = “Die In A Fire”.
Happy to help.
Once again, I’m failing to see where anything about this mentions Cruz’s name anywhere.
If it’s shown that Cruz is behind it I’ll denounce him. But this point-and-hate **** is not how you’re going to convince anyone.
“The Romney/Ryan/Bush/Cruz GOPe sore loser society is trying desperately to throw this election to Hillary.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
As usual, you hit the nail on the head.
Hillary2016, and 4 years for the GOPe to consolidate for 2020.
What self-aggrandizing myopic fools! Demographics alone will damn their plan.
And Cruz positions himself among the globalist uniparty? Former Cruz supporters will never forget.
Delegates Unbound = Delegates Unhinged.
Bastards.
Fed by idiots like Mark Levin and the National Review.
Chaos erupts!!!!! Turned off their Mic’s!!!
That’s what I say.
Drag these NeverTrump a$$holes out of the convention hall, boot them in the a$$ into the street, and replace them with alternate delegates.
I can’t believe they don’t know that their attitude could bring about a Hillary Presidency..they can’t want that surely? whats up with them :(
But that’s still far short from the majority needed.
Like the sound of that the snakes squirm.
Very serious question:
Do Cruz and his supporters want a significantly different agenda than Trump’s ??
Does Cruz oppose tighter border security, more scrutiny of muslim incoming immigrants, less emphasis on getting better balanced trade and employment opportunities for Americans ??
Or are they just bitter about the fact their guy lost ??
stakeholders is just code for a minority opinion.
They should be restricted to direct yea or nay and no comments.
breitbart is reporting Colorado (unelected delegation) walked out.
how rich,
what happened to you have to support the party candidate? we suffered through McCain, Romney, Dole, with demands of loyalty.
In 1776 these scum would be tory loyalists.
I wonder if they will leave Colorado out of the Convention or if they will bring in alternates to let Colorado have a say in voting...my two daughters live in Colorado and they are really mad because they didn't get a vote...wonder what happens now..
I also think, because of this ‘roll call’ vote that Cruz wanted and got and LOST again, that they should remove him from speaking to the Convention, if not, the people might walk out on him....hmmm...that wouldn't be such a bad idea, you think he would get the hint then???
