What’s interesting is that High society people as well Congressman and Senators brought their families out for a picnic to observe the battle because everyone thought the war, would be over by the end of Summer. Towards the end of the battle they got ran by Jeb Stuart’s confederate Calvary and retreating Union soldiers who were for their lives towards Washington after being routed.
I always found it fascinating that people would come to watch a battle as if it were entertainment.
